Technical notes

Mobilgard 540 X is a BN 40, SAE 50 cylinder oil for slow-speed two-stroke crosshead engines. The moderate BN 40 alkalinity is tuned for continuous low-sulphur operation — 0.10% (ULSFO) and 0.50% (VLSFO) sulphur residual and distillate fuels — and for dual-fuel/LNG gas running, where high-BN oils risk calcium deposit build-up. ExxonMobil positions it as a 'keep-clean' multi-fuel oil that combats deposit formation on newer engine designs while enabling feed-rate reduction versus prior formulations. It was the first cylinder oil gas-validated by WinGD, meeting WinGD requirements across all three fuel types. Launched June 2020. Fuel-to-BN matching is safety-critical: confirm the correct grade, BN and feed rate with the engine OEM and ExxonMobil before use.

Compliance

Formulated for IMO 2020 low-sulphur compliance (0.10% and 0.50% S fuels) and LNG/dual-fuel operation, meeting WinGD requirements for all three fuel types.
