Technical notes
Mobilgard 5100 is a BN 100, SAE 50 cylinder oil for two-stroke crosshead engines burning high-sulphur heavy fuel oil. Its high alkaline reserve (100 mg KOH/g) delivers the acid-neutralisation capacity needed to combat cold corrosion in modern high-pressure and slow-steaming engines, where condensed sulphuric acid attacks liners. With a viscosity near 20 cSt at 100 C and low volatility, it maintains oil-film retention and distribution at elevated peak firing pressures and liner temperatures. ExxonMobil reports it can cut cylinder oil consumption by up to 30 percent versus 70 BN oils in highly corrosive engines while mitigating corrosive wear. It carries Everllence (MAN Energy Solutions) Category II and WinGD general-usage status. Final grade and feed-rate selection must be confirmed with the engine OEM and ExxonMobil.
Compliance
Holds Everllence (formerly MAN Energy Solutions) Category II and WinGD Liquid Fuel General Usage status for two-stroke marine engines, per the ExxonMobil product data sheet.
