Technical notes
Cyltech 40 SX is a 40 BN, SAE 50 high-detergency cylinder oil for two-stroke crosshead engines running prolonged periods on low-sulphur fuel. Its low base number matches the low acid load of distillate or heavy fuels below 1.5% sulphur, while a bespoke detergency system controls piston ring-land and ring-pack deposits that can otherwise build up at low BN. It is also usable on fuels up to about 2% sulphur with an adjusted feed rate, though corrosion-sensitive engines on higher-sulphur fuel should move to a higher-BN grade. Castrol states the oil meets MAN Energy Solutions and Wartsila requirements for prolonged low-sulphur operation. Final grade, BN and feed rate selection must be confirmed with the engine OEM and Castrol for the specific engine and fuel in service.
Compliance
Castrol states Cyltech 40 SX meets MAN Energy Solutions and Wartsila requirements for prolonged low-sulphur operation as specified in their oil recommendation lists.
